Plumbing training will now available on Efate in 2021, following the example set by the Anglican Church of Melanesia’s Vocational Education Training Schools (ACOMVETS) in Santo in 2019 and 2020, which produced Vanuatu’s first ever locally-trained 14 ni-Vanuatu graduates in Vanuatu Qualifications Authority-accredited Certificate II Plumbing.

The Australia Pacific Training Coalition (APTC) and the Vanuatu Skills Partnership (VSP), with the support from the Australian Government, have supported the extension of plumbing delivery to central Vanuatu through the development of a plumbing facility at the Vanuatu Institute of Technology (VIT) that meets the requirements of the VQA-accredited Certificate II in Plumbing. Training will be delivered by the Pacific Vocational Training Centre (PVTC), which has VQA approval to deliver, in partnership with VIT (for resources).

An official handing-over of plumbing-related tools including plungers, hard hats and tools were purchased under the APTC-VSP partnership agreement to respond to the skills shortage of plumbers in Vanuatu.

APTC Country Director for Vanuatu and Nauru, Anna Naupa, encouraged the students to be a role model to others who would like to pursue this same trade.

VSP Director, Fremden Yanhambath, encouraged participants to bring the skills to their communities and make use of their opportunity.

APTC and VSP are collaborating with ACOMVETS to support the continued extension of short courses in the VQA-accredited Certificate II in Plumbing to Torba and Penama provinces, through the provincial Skills Centre network under the Ministry of Education and Training

The Australian Government reiterated their continuous support for skills development in Vanuatu.
